Harrison Ford plane crash: Star Wars actor wounded after crashing World War II-era plane
  • 9 years ago
Actor Harrison Ford sustained moderate injuries on Thursday after his vintage two-seater plane experienced mechanical problems and crashed on a California golf course.

The ‘Indiana Jones’ star was flying alone in his World War II-era Ryan PT-22 Recruit training plane which took off from Santa Monica Airport at around 2:24pm Thursday afternoon.

Soon after take off, the actor noticed the aircraft was experiencing mechanical problems and requested a return. But the small plane crashed shortly after into a golf course short of the runway.

Initial reports said the 72-year-old actor was in critical condition but authorities clarified that Ford was conscious when rescuers approached. It is the second plane crash that Ford has survived.

A long-time aviation enthusiast, Ford was awarded by the National Business Aviation Association for his aviation services supporting humanitarian and philanthropic causes.

Some have been lobbying for the closure of Santa Monica Airport because of its proximity to residential areas and flight schools. Three years ago, four people were killed in a Cessna Citation which crashed into the hangar.
