Gruesome death: Man's face impaled on fence spike after falling from tree while drunk
  • 9 years ago
Edwin Ochoa, 30, was found dead in East Hollywood early on Wednesday impaled on a metal fence.

Ochoa, known by neighbors to be a heavy drinker had apparently been enjoying beers up in a tree about 20-feet above the metal fence when the calamity befell him. Police believe he either fell from the tree either while climbing down or when a branch he was on snapped. Ochoa was impaled through the face and died at the scene.

Officers were called when a resident spotted the body at around 3:30 a.m. believing him to be a thief. He was found almost in a standing position, impaled through the neck and face, with his hands on the fence as if he was holding himself up.

"It looked like a Hollywood scene staged. He was impaled on the fence and couldn't get off of it," Sergeant Melvin Gamble of the Los Angeles Police Department told the L.A. Times.

Police also found about 20 empty beer cans scattered on the ground around the tree, along with broken branches.

According to local residents, Ochoa was a routinely drank heavily and police cited him several times in the past.
