Yemen news: President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi targeted in air attack by Shi'ite Muslim Houthi

An unidentified warplane targeted Yemen's presidential palace in the al-Maasheeq district of Aden on Thursday after a day of intense fighting.

Yemen military forces loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi encountered militants from the Shi'ite Muslim Houthi group earlier in the day. Reuters is reporting that 13 people were killed as Hadi military forces fended off attacks on the Aden International Airport and a nearby military base.

Warplanes targeted Hadi's compound with either bombs or missiles. Hadi forces on the ground used anti-aircraft guns to repel the warplanes' second-effort attack on the compound.

Aden governor Abdulaziz bin Habtoor said in a televised speech that the bomb, "had fallen harmlessly into the sea." The BBC reported that officials said the bomb landed on a nearby hillside.

The president was "safe at a secure location … There was raid, but there were no casualties," said one of Hadi's aides as quoted by Reuters.

Hadi had been stationed in Aden since February after escaping a month long house arrest in Houthi-controlled Sanaa.
