Tornadoes ripped through America’s mid-West leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

Weather scientists are working to verify the number of tornadoes which touched down in Illinois, Iowa and Ohio.

Illinois was the worst affected. One person has died in Fairdale and several others were hospitalised as a result of the severe storms. Not one home escaped damage when a tornado touched down in the town located 140 kilometres from Chicago.
