Pittsburgh police arrested a local elementary school teacher on Tuesday who allegedly tried to convince an 11-year-old girl to go "on the run" together. Geraldine Alcorn was suspended from her job at Beechwood Elementary on February 13 after sending thousands of text messages to a student expressing her love.
The 2,400 messages aren't sexual, but Alcorn talks about her deep love for the girl and offers to adopt her. Alcorn took the girl skating and lured her over to her own house.
It was only after the girl's mother caught Alcorn in the family's home that she discovered the text messages, along with a binder full of stick-it notes and two letters written by the 11-year-old, one titled "Things Ms Alcorn and I can do" and "When we can do it." The teacher was immediately suspended.
But on March 13, under pretense of picking up some of her old stuff, Alcorn hid a secret package in the girl's locker. It included several gifts and letters and a phone number the girl should call her at encrypted like math homework.
It looked like Alcorn hadn't given up on her dream of going all Thelma and Louise with the child. She's been charged with felony interference with custody of children, and luring a child into her car.
