A Wisconsin State Trooper was killed in the line of duty Tuesday evening by a robbery suspect in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., police followed a vehicle that matched the description of a robbery suspect to a shopping center in Fond du Lac, where the two sides exited their vehicles and began to exchange gunfire.

A Wisconsin State Trooper was shot and killed by the suspect, while the suspect also died during the exchange.

Earlier in the day, police responded to a bank robbery at 1:43 p.m. in the village of Wausaukee. A man had fired one round from a handgun and robbed the bank. Officials said the suspect appears to be the same person that exchanged gunfire with police at Fond du Lac.

The suspect may have also hijacked a car and fatally shot the driver in an attempt to avoid the police.

Police say they're not searching for any more suspects at the moment, and that there is no remaining danger to both the Fond du Lac or Wausaukee communities.
