Activists oppose Obama’s plans to approve new drilling in Arctic

Some 26 years after the Exxon-Valdez oil spill in Alaska, the Obama administration is expected to approve new drilling in the Arctic by Shell Oil. The remote area could be seriously affected by another spill, which could spell disaster for indigenous communities and the environment. A spill could wipe out the caribou, for example, and that in turn would have a major impact on the indigenous Kutchin people who are dependent on the animal. Furthermore, many lives could be lost should a major accident occur. Activists continue to oppose plans for drilling. Francesca Emanuele reports for teleSUR
