Researchers have found that cats, much like people, are more at ease during surgical procedures when they’re exposed to classical music.

The study was spearheaded by a veterinarian in Portugal who noticed that the cats he examined seemed quite fond of the genre, and began to wonder about music’s effects in other scenarios, such as surgery. 

He assembled a team and together they tested how cats reacted physically to three distinct types of tunes: classical, pop, and heavy metal.
