Lava Tubes On Moon Could Be Suitable For Human Habitat

A research team from Purdue has determined, based on computer modeling, that should lava tubes be found on the moon, structures measuring more than a mile wide would likely be the most stable for habitation.

Lava tubes, tunnels formed by the cooling and hardening of lava on top as the remainder flows below, could be viable bases for human habitation on the moon.

Although none have been confirmed on the lunar body as yet, they are believed to be indicated by images of “skylight” cave entrances and channel-like patterns seen from the surface.
