The Real USA - Pelican Bay state prison, CA

According to criminal justice reporter Shane Bauer, who recently published an extensive report on solitary confinement in Pelican Bay prision in California, many of the inmates have spent 30 or 40 years without interaction with other human beings. Bauer reports that they were often held there because of their associations with other people, the books they were reading, gang affiliations or possessing writings on African American history. Journalist Sarah Shourd reports that the conditions of isolation practically guarantee the inability of prisoners to function in society once they are released. Alexandra Hall reports for teleSUR.
