This is a long-standing tradition connected to the maternity package offered by the government.

For more than 75 years, pregnant women in Finland have been receiving government aid which often comes in the form of a box full of the supplies needed to care for a newborn.

The contents, which change every year, generally include neutral-colored onesies, hats, and other clothing suitable for boys or girls, as well as a sleeping bag, toiletries, bibs, and a book.

A small mattress and sheets are also included which conveniently turn the box into a makeshift crib.
