Formé par les guitaristes Jim Peterik et Frankie Sullivan, Survivor est un groupe de rock qui voit le jour en 1978, aux Etat-Unis. En 82, Dave Bickler (chant), Stephen Ellis (basse), et Marc Doubray (batterie) viennent compléter la formation. C'est la même année, qu'ils connaîtront leur plus grand succès, en enregistrant le fameux single Eye Of The Tiger pour le film Rocky III, qui propulse l'album de même nom, à la tête de tous les charts. En 83, pour des raisons médicales, Dave Bickler, se voit contraint de quitter le groupe, il est remplacé par Jimi Jamison, ex-chanteur du groupe Cobra. En 86, le producteur de Rocky fait de nouveau appel à Survivor, qui signe Burning Heart pour le quatrième volet du film. Outre ces deux derniers succès, la carrière du groupe ne déplace pas les foules et s'achève en 89.
