Pope Francis recently clarified the Catholic Church’s stance on family planning.

In a press conference given from the papal plane, he emphasized that although artificial contraceptives are banned, natural pregnancy prevention means are absolutely fine.

He also noted that the prohibitions against manmade means should in no way be interpreted as encouragement for followers of the faith to reproduce ‘like rabbits.’

Rather, it’s advised against that people have more children than they can safely produce or reasonably care for.

Pope Francis also recalled meeting a woman who had put her own life in jeopardy by becoming pregnant. She had previously delivered 7 children via caesarian section.

He advised that she stopped "tempting God” and going forward exercise greater responsibility.

In general, he reminded the Catholic population that priests are able to advise on church-approved planning methods.
