Richard Perle: Obama's no-show at Paris rally is a 'revealing mistake'

Former US Assistant Secretary of Defense Richard Perle comments on the terror threat following the recent deadly attacks in Paris. He believes that the threat from Islamic extremism will go on "until the Western world is able to deal enough of a blow to this ideology so that it loses its appeal".
He denies that the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, which he supported, has contributed to the rise in terror attacks. "What the West must now do is make sure that there are no more victories for ISIS”, he says. He also calls on the US and its allies to intervene more decisively in Iraq and Syria.
Richard Perle also regrets President Barack Obama's no-show at the Paris unity rally against terrorism, calling it a "revealing mistake". "The mistake was a political calculation but what's more fundamental is the failure to understand how important it is to express solidarity in a crisis like this", he tells FRANCE 24's Marc Perelman.
