Afghan women fear oppression as US-led combat mission ends

An investigation into the November 16 suicide bomb attack on Afghanistan's celebrated female parliamentarian Shukria Barakzai has led nowhere and the tireless campaigner for women's rights says it is just one sign of the dangers facing women in her country.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) AFGHAN MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT SHUKRIA BAREKZAI SAYING:
"Being a woman in politics it is not really easy. You need to work three times more than a man to prove yourself as a politician and take all the risk."
Her concerns are intensifying now that there has been a formal end to the international combat mission in Afghanistan. The U.S. led coalition that invaded Afghanistan in 2001 to oust the Taliban put in plac e legal safeguards for women - some of which have already been rolled back.
