The Smithsonian National Zoo’s panda cub named Bao Bao managed to give her fans a good scare two days before Christmas.

Zoo employees used Facebook to announce that she made contact with an electrified wire that was installed to ensure she stays in her containment space.

The social media post explained “Her reaction was to climb up a tree where she feels safe. This behavior is predictable. Bao Bao is perfectly fine and like all Zoo animals, she is still learning the boundaries of her habitat.”

The cub’s mother was allowed to stay in the area with her overnight and a zookeeper was stationed in a so-called panda house in the event both pandas decided to come indoors.

Bao Bao opted to stay outside in the rain for a while. A zoo spokesperson pointed out the baby panda was perfectly fine being out in the poor weather conditions, as the species is from the cold and often wet forests of China.

The 16-month-old cub didn’t climb down from the tree until the following day which was Christmas Eve.
