Shots fired at Israeli embassy in Athens

The Israeli embassy in Athens is a crime scene.

Police say four assailants on two motorcycles fired shots at the building before fleeing into the city's northern suburbs.

More than 50 spent bullet cases were found at the scene, and while damage was minimal and no one was hurt, Public Order Minister Vassilis Kikilias says police are determined to find the perpetrators.

"Those who are systematically making efforts to create problems at a crucial time for the country should know they will find the state and the majority of the public against them."

Greece has a long history of political violence, exacerbated in recent years by the country's economic crisis.

The embassy has been cordoned off while police investigate this latest incident.
