The trend picked up steam and became a topic among media outlets after Seattle-based stylist Roxie Hunt created a post on how you could dye your own armpit hair at home.
That October post has since been shared tens of thousands of times and it looks like the tips prompted other women to try out the method. Females around the world have shared their own photos on social media, showing off their colored hairy pits.
Green, pink, teal, purple, red, orange - you can name almost any color and its been done. Some women go for a matching look and make an effort to have the hair on their armpits resemble the hair on their heads.
Others seem to just go with what they like and flaunt opposite colors. The trend is certainly a far cry from what went on in the beauty world a century ago.
In a May issue of Harper’s Bazaar from 1915, an ad referred to the stuff that naturally grows on women’s bodies as ‘objectionable hair’. In the years that followed, advertisements showcased products geared towards removing that hair.
