General Motors announced that restoration work on the one-millionth Corvette to roll off the production line will soon commence.

The car is one of the 8 that were damaged when a sinkhole opened up beneath the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Greene, Kentucky.

GM initially planned to restore all of the cars affected, but it was later determined that only 3 were salvageable.

Thankfully, the milestone white convertible is among them.

Work on it is expected to go on for about 6 months, but how long the repairs actually take will be dictated by the process and parts availability.

GM already plans to custom manufacture pieces that are no longer commercially available, ensuring that they are as close to the originals as possible.

Whenever feasible, however, efforts will be made to maintain as much authenticity as possible.

The GM team performing the rebuilding is comprised of approximately 25 individuals, and experts will be brought in as needed.

This is the 2nd and last Corvette damaged in the sinkhole accident that GM will work on.

Restoration of the 3rd surviving vehicle will be performed by an independent shop as its age puts it in a category requiring specialized care.
