Protesters in New York City took to the streets, marching to demand justice after a grand jury decision not to charge a white police officer who killed an unarmed black man with a chokehold sparked outrage and protests on Wednesday (December 3).

About two dozen demonstrators lay down in Grand Central Terminal's main hall in Midtown Manhattan in a silent protest as the evening rush hour began.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PROTESTER RAQUEL GRIFFIN SAYING:

"People have to know that people care and it's not okay. This is New York and what happens in other states, it can't happen here."

(SOUNDBITE) (English) NEW YORKER STONA SOANES SAYING:

"It's really trying to figure out how can we affect change and not just kind of show some demonstration, legislation, things like that. Our elected officials, holding people responsible That's the missing piece that I'm finding that I can't find the result for."
