STORY: Gaza streets and vehicles were submerged in rain water on Thursday (November 27) as the region was hit by flooding triggered by heavy rains.

In one area of Gaza City, residents waded through knee-deep water with a bursting sewage system.

In another neighborhood workers and engineers of Gaza's municipal council were working to create a new pool where water could be directed.

Gaza, a small coastal enclave with a 1.8 million population, lacks basic civil infrastructure.

An estimated 20,000 homes were destroyed or damaged in the Israeli offensive earlier in the year, and major pieces of infrastructure, from roads to sewage treatment plants, were seriously damaged.
