Arrests made in 2nd night of Ferguson protests

Forty-four people were arrested during a second, calmer night of demonstrations in Ferguson, Missouri, after a grand jury declined to indict a white police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black teenager in August, police said early on Wednesday.

"A group of rioters went on Church Street to City Hall, broke out several windows of the city hall and then badly damaged a Ferguson police car that was parked in front of the city hall. That happens also to be the only place we deployed tear gas this evening," said Jon Belmar, St. Louis County Police Chief at the overnight news conference in Ferguson.

Police said they worked together with peaceful demonstrators.

"We came out and worked in partnership. You know a lot of protesters that came out for peaceful protests were actually assisting us tonight. But once again there are those that are stuck on violence, that embed themselves with the peaceful protesters," said Missouri Highway Patrol Captain Ronald Johnson.
