An Austrian Park Submerged Underwater

Each Spring melting snow causes a nearby lake to rise and flood a park, turning it into an underwater wonderland.

In Austria, there's a park that for a few weeks each Spring is submerged with water.

As the snow melts from the nearby mountains, the runoff causes Green Lake's water to rise and double in area, turning the entire park into an underwater wonderland.

Benches, bridges and trees are all part of the aquatic landscape, seen easily in the clear, almost turquoise water.

The park only remains underwater for three to four weeks before receding to a small lake again.

According to Marc Henauer, who spent a week scuba diving and taking pictures of the park, "Underwater, we feel a magical world. The sun creates fantastic light rays through water. Then you think it is a dream and you expect to see goblins appear."

Henauer's photos of the park earned him third place in the 2014 National Geographic Traveler photo contest.
