Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Mexico City to protest President Enrique Pena Nieto’s handling of the disappearance of 43 student teachers.

Hundreds of police in riot gear blocked access to the National Palace where thousands of demonstrators had gathered in support of the students who were allegedly abducted on September 26 near Iguala in Guerrero state.

Earlier around 300 masked protesters had clashed with police at the city’s airport, throwing petrol bombs. Police reported no one was injured in the scuffles.
