Plumes of smoke rose over the besieged Syrian border town of Kobani on Thursday (November 20), following U.S.-led coalition airstrikes on Islamic State targets in the city.
Kobani has become the epicenter of a fierce fight between the militants and Kurdish forces fighting for control over the town, which sits along the Syrian border with Turkey.
U.S.-led forces conducted six air strikes against Islamic State militants and one against the al Qaeda-affiliated Khorasan Group in Syria since Monday (November 17), and 24 air strikes in Iraq during the same period, the U.S. military said.
