Perhaps the director thinks its better to be dead than Gay?The attitude in this movies is from the 1950s.I don't think anyone makes such an introspective fuss about being gay nowadays.
i see this movie as more of a change of time ..... they been alot of changes in the gay world ... people are a little more open ... or at least more acceptting .... for every move we make forward is just like burning down other house or wall....even in today world.......... a young man just walk up to a guy he like and just as them out .... we still have to test the water......
Well, I like the fact that they have Australian accents. 10 Points for that! LOL. Anyway, this idea that someone has to die when two males fall in love is not so new. Actually its mainly in the last 20 years that happy ever after began to happen in gay love stories.
It makes me very angry that any gay person 'has' to die, or 'has' to be unfilfilled. Its absolute rubbish. These two fellows could have had a joyous, fun, thrilling time exploring their friendship, their bodies, their feelings. They are obviously friends. There is no question of promiscuity here...thats another subject. This is just about the two of them. So, why the burning house? Why the major loss of a persons life?
Good film tho. Well constructed, well done. If this was a straight film, however, I think it would have ended happy enough ever after.
The movie's interesting. It pisses everyone off b/c he just leaves the guy there. I think its a role reversal of what is generally portrayed where the queer person may be turned down and gets beaten up or something terrible happens to them by mistake. Instead the lead guy is accepted but too insecure with himself causing a horrible reaction.

Sadly, he had to go and kill the poor bloke. I would've stuck my willy in 'im.
