Police in Indian-controlled Kashmir fired tear gas on Thursday to disperse stone-throwing supporters of separatist leader Yasin Malik, who were protesting against upcoming state elections.
Malik’s JKFL Party is part of an umbrella group of Kashmiri separatist groups, the All Party Hurriyat Conference, which has asked people to refrain from November’s vote, saying the region has more important issues to deal with first.
