A suspect who allegedly planted a suspicious device in a New York City phone booth is still on the loose.

NYPD has released surveillance footage showing what occurred. In the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 21st, the male walked up to a telephone booth in Manhattan.

He was carrying a device in his hands, consisting of two pieces of wood that were attached to a black pipe. A flashing LED light was also on the contraption.

After the suspect put the device in the phone box, he turned and calmly walked away. Dispatchers received a 911 call and sent officers to the scene hours after the man left it behind.

The NYPD Bomb Squad also arrived to X-ray the booth. Nothing was detected inside that had the potential to explode.

They still took precautionary measures and broke up the contraption with a controlled blast of air. As the initial investigation efforts were underway, staffers from nearby office buildings were held back and informed they couldn’t yet enter the structures.

It remains unclear if the man placed the device as a prank or if he wanted to scare patrons at a restaurant located in the vicinity.
