'Boom Clap' success forces Charli XCX to delay next album

The success of her single ‘Boom Clap’ even took British singer-songwriter Charli XCX by surprise, forcing her to delay the release of her next album.
‘Boom Clap’ gave the 22-year old her first top 10 hit as a solo artist selling over 1.5 million copies worldwide. She’s currently finalising her third studio album ‘Sucker’ due out early next year.
“It’s a pop album but it has a punk element, a punk edge to it and it’s definitely the most raw and wild thing I’ve done, and definitely the thing I’m most proud of, you know. It feels like I’ve really found my voice making this album, which is so nice,” says the young artist.
Charli recorded her debut album on a loan granted by her parents when she was just 14. Now a seasoned songwriter, she writes both her own tracks and has helped pen international hits for celebrities like Iggy Azalea with ‘Fancy’.
She says today’s young audiences are evolving fast: “I think pop music has just become more emotional and audiences have become more intelligent. Like, you know, younger audiences have become a lot more open to more variation in the music they listen to.”
The upcoming album’s second single ‘Break the Rules’ was released earlier this month. Charli XCX is currently touring Mexico and the US and will be supporting Katy Perry on her 2015 ‘The Prismatic’ European Tour.
