PRIME MINISTER MODI LAUNCHES ‘CLEAN INDIA’ CAMPAIGN
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the 'My Clean India' campaign, aiming to tackle the country's hygiene and sanitation problems. He is calling on all his fellow countrymen and women to join the massive nationwide clean-up drive, which has been met with widespread commentary online.
As we can see from these pictures that have been doing the rounds on the web, many have taken part in the government's video competition which invited participants to film themselves cleaning up their street or neighbourhood. The prime minister himself took part in a similar operation early October, hoping to lead by example, as he swept a street in New Delhi.
The Indian authorities have also posted a promotional video along with the campaign song to social media platforms in an effort to get as many people as possible involved in the drive. The song, composed specially, urges the people of India to take action today to ensure the India of tomorrow is cleaner and stronger.
And while the clean-up drive is generating favourable reactions online, some are wondering where to put the waste once collected. The people who posted these messages to Twitter for example say the country does not have any proper refuse facilities or waste recycling centres.
