Firefighters have a history of saving all sorts of creatures. On Friday, a crew in Lacey, Washington responded to a structure fire.

They swiftly went to work putting out the flames. During the efforts, they learned a hamster family was still in the building.

Like true heroes, they went inside the structure and brought the tiny creatures outdoors. The life saving job wasn’t over however. The firefighters had to treat the hamsters with oxygen.

They used a tiny, makeshift mask to revive them. The fire chief remarked “We have a whole aid kit we use in house fires that fits dogs and cats. We don’t have anything that small, but we’re pretty good at improvising.”

The crew used their training and knowledge from a 'pet emergency pocket guide' to carry out the first aid methods. There were five rodents that had been pulled out of the burning building. The crew was able to save the lives of all but one.

Aside from the hamsters, nobody was inside the structure at the time of the fire. Reportedly, the blaze started in a clothes drier.
