Tiny House Hotel In Portland First Of Its Kind

The tiny house movement has been gathering speed for the past few decades, and now for the first time people have a chance to try it out at Caravan, a tiny house hotel.

The tiny house movement has been sweeping the nation, but one thing it lacked up until now was a tiny hotel.

Now in Portland, Oregon, there's Caravan. Located within the Alberta Arts District, this tiny house hotel is the first of its kind to open in the United States.

There are five tiny homes on the property, all locally built. Depending on which house is available, the units are able to house one to four people.

Though small, each house has a bathroom and a kitchen, along with electric heat, a flushable toilet, a refrigerator and a microwave and hot plate for cooking.

Owned by life partners, Kol Peterson and Deb Delman, Caravan offers visitors a unique experience.

The area is reminiscent of a campsite, and an outdoor area is meant for communal gatherings.

Along with the tiny lodgings, there's a fire pit, room service from a local restaurant and nightly all-you-can eat S'mores.

Delman says, "People appreciate being someplace unusual and unique and having that balance of private and being able to meet other travelers.”

Nightly rates start at $125, and along with offering a place to stay, it gives those interested in the tiny house movement a chance to test whether or not they could live in 160 square feet of space.
