Team USA defeated winless New Zealand, 98-71, on September 2, to champion its third preliminary round at the FIBA Basketball World Cup. But their victory was not what fans were talking about after the game. Team USA’s Kiwi counterparts stole the show at Bizkaia Arena in Barakaldo on Tuesday, by performing the ‘Haka’, a traditional Maori warrior dance punctuated by wild facial expressions, chest beating and intimidating roars. The dance, while familiar to rugby fans, bewildered New Zealand’s US opponents.
