China rules out full democracy for Hong Kong

Pro-democracy activists vow to bring Hong Kong's financial hub to a standstill...
...after China's parliament rejected their demands for full democracy.
They're calling their movement "Occupy Central".
(SOUNDBITE) (Cantonese) SECRETARY GENERAL OF HONG KONG FEDERATION OF STUDENTS, ALEX CHOW, SAYING:
"Some officials -- who we don't even know how they got chosen in the first place -- are telling us Hong Kong people, this place is Beijing's turf. Today I have to tell you this is definitely not true. Hong Kong is Hong Kong people's own turf."
China's ruling does allow for direct elections for Hong Kong's chief executive in 2017.
But only two to three candidates can run.
And strict nomination rules mean it's almost impossible for opposition democrats to get on the ballot.
Despite the outcry at Sunday's rally, Hong Kong's current chief executive says this is progress.
