A recent poll revealed that 1 in 6 people in France have favorable feelings towards the terrorist group ISIS.

The question asked was, "From what you know, please, tell me if you have a very favourable, somewhat favourable, somewhat unfavourable or very unfavourable opinion of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant otherwise known as Isis?"

Most of the responders who had positive opinions were younger.

27 percent of those in the 18-to-24 age bracket gave approving answers. 20 percent of those between 35 and 44 were supportive in their feedback as well.

France’s government, on the other hand, has made it clear that they do not endorse the Islamic State’s goals or its actions.

In July they offered asylum to the persecuted and displaced individuals fleeing from ISIS.

They also said they were ‘outraged’ by ‘the abuses’.

The poll was reportedly ordered by a Russian news agency, and an expert in the field of French Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences offered an explanation as to why the younger generations are expressing approval of the militants.

He said that it’s not necessarily support per se, but rather a statement of opposition against France’s elite and their country’s current system.
