An environmental activist has announced his plans to live on a melting iceberg for a year, or until it vanishes into the ocean.

Alex Bellini is a professional adventurer, and motivational speaker who wants to draw more attention to the effects of climate change by documenting the time he spends living on the iceberg.

He has yet to choose the exact location from among the icebergs in the northwestern part of Greenland, but he plans to begin the project in the spring of 2015.

Bellini is quoted as saying: “In this new mission I wish to become the bridge between the researchers and the rest of the world, and I hope I will help all those who will follow the adventure understanding the urgent need for action and for a greater sense of responsibility.”

While on the iceberg, Bellini will reportedly live inside of a survival capsule, like the ones used on oil rigs that are Kevlar enforced.

He will also be provided with 661 pounds of dried food to sustain him, and in case his situation becomes dangerous, or the iceberg melts completely before the year is up, his capsule will float until he is rescued.
