Shakira's hit song ripped off Dominican artist: N.Y. judge

A problem for Shakira - a U.S. federal judge has ruled that a 2010 song by the Colombian pop star was copied from a Dominican songwriter's work. The ruling says that Shakira's Spanish-language single "Loca" infringed on the work of Ramon Arias Vasquez, who wrote a similar song in the late 1990s.

However, the judge dismissed claims that Shakira's English version of the track infringed, citing a lack of evidence.

The next phase of the case will be to determine damages and a possible permanent injunction against Shakira's label, Sony.
