Four Firefighters Injured By Electrical Shock During 'Ice Bucket Challenge'

On Thursday, four firefighters in Kentucky were injured by an electrical shock while taking part in the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ at Campbellsville University. Two of them, 41-year-old Capt. Tony Grider and 22-year-old Simon A. Quinn had to be airlifted to the hospital.

The other two Capt. Steve Marrs and Alex Johnson were hurt but their injuries were not serious. The firefighters had decided to help with the challenge so the university students could raise money.
Reportedly the fire truck was parked close to a power line. High-voltage electricity later arced to the bucket of the arial ladder truck.
The firefighters had just covered the students in cold water when they were shocked. Grider remains in critical condition at the University of Louisville Medical Center Burn Unit while Quinn’s state is said to be stable.
At the time of the accident both Grider and Quinn had been inside the bucket section of the ladder. The bucket was being moved when energy arced over, but it did not actually hit the power line.
A prayer vigil for the affected firefighters was held Thursday night on campus.
