On Tuesday, a World War II bomb was discovered by a construction crew next to a highway near Frankfurt airport in Germany.

Once it was found, a portion of the road was shut down and flight operations were disrupted. Over 1,000 yards near the site was closed to the public, as efforts kicked off to dispose of the 500-kilogram British bomb.
Police decided it couldn’t be defused, so they opted to get rid of the bomb in a controlled explosion. One airport runway was forced to close, as planes weren’t permitted to fly over the area.
The facility reportedly denied all landings for a period of time while the bomb was dealt with. Airport logs show several incoming flights were delayed.
At about 11 P.M. things started getting back to normal. 22 planes were then allowed to take off. Pilots and passengers weren’t the only affected parties as a result of the blast.
Roughly 160 people were evacuated from their homes. The bomb had a 300-metre blast radius. Fortunately no injuries were reported.
