The German foreign minister says Berlin is ready to send weapons to support Iraqi Kurds in their battle against the ISIL militants.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier called the ISIL onslaught in north Iraq, barbaric. He also warned that the ISIL advance poses an "existential threat" to Iraq, and may cause what he called a conflagration in the Middle East. His comments come after other European countries said they would send weapons to help the Kurdish forces in north Iraq. The German foreign minister has visited Iraq and the Kurdistan region in the recent days.
