Eddie Star - "2017" Monroe Entertainment Records Group, Inc. - A BlankTV World Premiere!

Artist city, country: New York, New York, USA

Artist Biography: Eddie Star is a true and enduring original. His music defines the attitude of a generation. With the release of Informal Deviance, the smashing debut from his new band Joybox as well as two re-issues from his previous band Eddie Star & The Zero Effect, Star is able to celebrate his past as he looks to the future.

Star began his music career at age 17 when he began working with producer Arthur G. Wright (Billy Preston,Thank God It’s Friday). During the writing and recording of his first album Eddie worked with several diverse well-known musicians including Fred Schreuders (Hiroshima) and Don McCurdy (The Bottomfeeders, Dead Lazlos Place) before forming his band the Zero Effect. The band’s self-titled debut was a perfect blend of rock’n’roll and punk in the vein of such bands as Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, The Stooges and The Ramones all of whom first influenced the London, Ontario, native to pick up a guitar.

Eddie Star & The Zero Effect played non-stop gigs to rave reviews opening for and headlining with marquee bands including the legendary SST Recording artist Blood on the Saddle, Media Blitz, and Tuesday’s Waiting before disbanding in 1999 after a final performance at the legendary Whisky a Go Go. It was during this time that Star and Bob Mars (Tom Morello, Church of Mars) began working together. During the next few years they collaborated on and recorded more than 30 songs that would become the foundation of Joybox.

In 2006 Star founded Monroe Entertainment Records Group (M.E.R.G.) with his friend, mentor and music industry veteran Gary Monroe. The label’s first release was the critically acclaimed debut (Living in Silence) from MTV’s Battle for Ozzfest runner-up, Guilt by Association.

About The Video: To celebrate the recent releases of Eddie Star’s catalog, a music video for the song 2017 was directed by New York photographer Marisha Camp. Marisha’s brother, former MTV VJ Jessie Camp makes an appearance in the video. “It was really cool to have Jesse appear in the video” says Star.

Song Lyrics: 2017

Words and Music: Eddie Star-Calvin Popejoy

Verse #1

You’ve got me caught in your groove.
I’m stuck in a file cabinet and I can’t move.
You can’t figure out where to place me.
Because I don’t have a definite identity.
I guess I have a problem with society.
But you can’t tell me who I have to be.

Chorus

I’m 2017
I’m caught in between.
I’m not a kid I’m not grown up
I’m caught in between
Hey man I’m 2017.

Verse #2

Put your evil thoughts in my head.
Rumors and lies all the crap you said.
Go ahead destroy my self-esteem.
But you can’t take away my dream.
Go and spit out your words of hate.
You can’t destroy me it’s too late.

Chorus

Guitar solo

Verse #3

Names, identity, money, social class.
All the old rules tied to the past.
You can be what ever you want to be.
Go and create your reality.
Get your evil thoughts out of my head.
Forget about everything society has said.

Chorus
