Ukraine has confirmed a government fighter jet was shot down by pro-Russian forces in the country’s conflict zone.
The pro-Russian forces said earlier that they downed the Ukrainian jet near the eastern city of Luhansk after it launched an attack on their positions. A military spokesman said the pilot had ejected and was safe. The development came as Ukrainian troops drove deep into the city. Meanwhile, authorities in the city of Donetsk say at least 10 civilians have been killed in the eastern city of Donetsk over the past 24 hours as government forces continue their offensive. Fighting in and around Donetsk has also led to the cut-off of the city’s water supply. The authorities said that due to damage to power lines, the main water supply of Donetsk has been stopped.
