Africa says has no choice other than experimental drug for Ebola

    by PressTV

The world Health organization says the current status is the highest ever recorded in the history of the Ebola disease that was discovered in 19-76.
Guinea, Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone, are at the center of the scourge with over 1000 deaths recorded since March this year. An experimental drug called ZMAPP that has been used to treat two Americans is now being looked at as the only hope. African Union says that although in normal circumstances the unproven drug would not be recommended, the continent has no choice. Although Canada offered to give between 800 and 1000 doses of the drug to be used in West Africa ,the continent is still uncertain of its availability and supply. It is also not clear if the weak health facilities in Africa will offer the same positive response top patients considering that they are wanting compared to the developed ones in the US where the two Americans were treated with the same vaccine. The world health organization has now declared Kenya as a high risk area considering that it is a busy transit route to West Africa. Countries that have successfully fought the Ebola disease in the past include Uganda, Democratic republic of Congo and South Sudan. The African Union has offered World Health organization 1 million dollars to help combat the Ebola disease. The continent now sees the need to speed up the establishment of an African center of disease control.
