A state trooper in Maryland is being hailed as a hero after video footage was released of him rescuing a suicidal man from jumping off of a bridge.

The Maryland State Police Department posted the video taken from the cruiser dash cam onto YouTube, along with a short account of the incident.

The 24-year-old police officer Joshua Kim tackled the suicidal man before he had a chance to jump off of a 90-foot high.

Maryland State Police spokeswoman Elena Russo is quoted as saying: “This trooper put his own life at risk. He went to grab the man, and the man could have pulled him over the side with him. It was a lot of courage and bravery.”

Kim has been a state trooper for two years, but he said his high school football training helped him in this particular situation.

Kim tackled and handcuffed the jumper to prevent any attempts that might be made to injure himself in some other way.

In the cruiser on the way to the hospital, the man reportedly thanked Kim and opened up about what was troubling him including family and medical issues.
