After the sinkhole opened up at approximately 4 P.M. on Tuesday, the Hollywood Tans building along with a number of other local business were evacuated as a safety measure. Fortunately no one was hurt.
The driver of the car was rescued before the vehicle was completely swallowed. The auto owner, identified as Natalie Huddleston described her ordeal stating “I was swaying, I kept drifting back and realized I was stuck in this hole.”
Huddleston called the tanning bed owner for help and then crawled through the passenger side window to get out. The 2002 Saturn has since been pulled out of the sinkhole.
According to work crews, a storm drain runoff pipe collapsed during recent storms and caused the sinkhole. The property owner will be responsible for the cost of repairs.
