SOT, Rolf Erbe, Director of Operations - Berlin Fire Service (in German): "Here, we realised we have the problem of not getting out of the door or the hallway, and therefore, had to create an opening at the other end of the building to gently move the patient out. We then got a special bed from a hospital, and now, after four hours, we were able to bring the lady to the hospital."

It took over four hours for the Berlin fire brigade to move a woman weighing 300kg (660 pounds) out of her Prenzlauer Berg apartment to be taken to hospital on Wednesday.

According to Rolf Erbe, Director of Operations of the Berlin Fire Service, a call was received on Wedneday morning at 0720 CET (0520 GMT) for a medical emergency involving a "person of excessive weight." After arriving at the site on Werner-Kube-Strasse, the brigade was forced to break the window of her room wide open to be able to squeeze through the double-sized bed that the woman was laying on.
