A 72-year-old man in Manhattan was taking a stroll at about 5:30 in the evening when he was randomly punched in the face.

As the victim walked on a sidewalk in the West Village he approached the assailant who was standing on a corner and facing the street. The suspect didn’t appear to be paying any attention to the elderly man, however, as soon as the victim was close, the attacker turned and struck him.

The 72-year-old fell to the ground. Right after the assault, the suspect ran away. Another man was reportedly waiting for him across the street.

Police are now searching for both males. They are described as black and in their early 20s. The elderly man was taken to Beth Israel Hospital where his condition is listed as stable.

As a result of the attack, he encountered pain to his head, bleeding on his brain and a number of lacerations. The attack appeared to be completely random.

Law enforcement is asking anyone with information about one or both suspects to contact Crime Stoppers.
