French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has called for military support to Iraq in its fight with ISIL Takfiri terrorists. France had initially offered to help Christian minorities in Iraq. Now, it says even the European Union should intervene in Iraq. The foreign minister’s calls have been supported by Opposition parties in France. For Kurdish observers, it is not a surprise.
The ISIL has killed hundreds and displaced thousands of Izadi Kurds, and Christians in Iraq in the past few weeks. The French calls to arms deliveries comes just days after the US launched air strike against ISIL terrorists. But latest reports show, the US led intervention has not been useful. While EU ministers meet in Brussels, the latest talks are expected to rule out sending of French troops to Iraq. France has already intervened militarily in Central African Republic and Mali.
