4 years ago80 views

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, arrived in Naypyitaw, Myanmar on Saturday (August 9), to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Foreign Ministerial Meetings.

He also held a sideline meeting with Myanmar President Thein Sein at the Presidential Palace on the same day, where issues of reforms, media freedom and human rights in the Southeast Asian country were being discussed.

The reforms in Myanmar so far and its hosting of the region's largest summit meetings is thought to be one of the milestones after Thein Sein took office in 2011. The reforms process so far were irreversible according to the Myanmar president.

Kerry will be joining the ASEAN-US Ministerial Meeting on Saturday, where a number of regional and international issues are to be discussed. Kerry is also expected to insist on the United States determination in its pivot towards Asia and increase investment in the Southeast Asian nations.
