The Aurora Borealis more commonly known as the Northern Lights, is a colorful natural light display in the sky that can be seen at higher latitudes on Earth.

Dutch Docklands, a property development company in the Netherlands, is working on the design for a floating hotel shaped like a snowflake, where visitors will be able to watch the Northern Lights from the comfort of their own private room.

The Krystall Floating Hotel will feature 86 rooms with glass ceilings to provide a clear view of the dazzling light display.

Construction will begin next year, and they plan to open it before Christmas in 2016.

Visitors will be able to access the hotel by boat at its location somewhere near Tromso in northern Norway.

Koen Olthuis, Dutch architect and founder of Waterstudio, and an expert on floating structures is quoted as saying: “Different to any vessel this hotel is floating real estate and will not move. The shape provides most of the stability, but additional technology with dampers, springs, and cables is used to take away any acceleration.”

The structure is designed so that it will have a minimal impact on the surrounding environment.

Dutch Docklands is also working on The Ocean Flower, a floating 185 villa project located in the Maldives.
